What’s New from Boise Baroque Orchesyra!

The Boise Baroque Summer Music Festival, new Executive Director and more.

After 20 wonderful years performing in downtown Boise, our orchestra is on the move! We’ve transformed into a four-week summer music festival and hired a new Executive Director. Read on for more information about the change and answers to your questions below.

Introducing our new Executive Director:

Thomas J. Zera

Greetings Boise Baroque Orchestra family! I am writing to you today to introduce myself as the new Executive Director for the Boise Baroque Orchestra. Here is a little background on me:

I am a classically trained Double Bassist originally from Buffalo, NY. I started playing at age 9, received a Bachelors of Music Performance degree from the Hartt School of Music and a Masters in Music Performance degree from The Juilliard School. I have been with the Utah Symphony for 25 years and have played in 19 professional orchestras and chamber festivals during my 36 year career.

My business background stems from ownership in real estate technology and development companies. After finishing business school with an MBA this past February, and some gentle steering from my musical CEO and Board Chair mentors, I understood that the best way for me to benefit the arts moving forward was to meld my two professions together and shift focus to Arts Management.

Robert Franz and the Board have set up the Boise Baroque Orchestra to thrive. I'm honored and excited to be invited to the family both for me, and for the audiences of the Treasure Valley that love18th Century music performed in magical settings.

Bye for now, see you soon.

Three years ago the Boise Baroque Orchestra began performing summer concerts outdoors at the Château des Fleurs in Eagle. Immediately these concerts were well received and well attended, breaking all audience records. In addition, the demographic variation in those audiences was wide, consisting of 30-40% new audiences at each concert. This audience of families and friends embraced these opportunities to relax and enjoy beautiful music performed in this idyllic outdoor setting. The fall, winter, and spring concerts on the other hand, have not grown, and the scheduling of those concerts has become more and more difficult as the arts scene in Boise prospers.

Due to these factors, the Boise Baroque Orchestra has made the decision to pivot and turn itself into the Boise Baroque Summer Music Festival. Our new season schedule will consist of four Sundays at the end of the summer. This change will provide us with the vehicle to grow our audiences, develop a wider donor base, increase our visibility, and develop a stronger education program, all while providing audiences with excellent music making and intriguing repertoire from the 18th century.

We would like to offer a huge thank you to our subscribers, who have supported the Boise Baroque Orchestra fall, winter, and spring concerts for so many years. We recognize that it is the support and generosity of our audience that have made our concerts possible. We invite you to join the Boise Baroque Summer Music Festival as we continue to build on our successes and pour our resources into becoming the premiere baroque summer festival in the Pacific Northwest.
