Dr. Brian Hodges, Associate Professor of Music, Boise State University and Boise Baroque Chamber Orchestra cellist presents “Music of the Baroque Period” lectures on March 2 and 9, 2019 at 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. It is part of a lecture series of the Osher Institute.
“Focusing on certain trends, composers, and pieces, this course will provide a quick survey of music from the Baroque period, according to Hodges. “We will explore why it sounds the way it does, and new ideas of expression and emotion this period launched. We will also look at art and architecture of the time period and how it relates to the music.”
Many examples from Purcell, Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach, and Handel will be featured—some to be demonstrated by Dr. Hodges on his cello, live in class.
